Jesus is Not an Angel

Like most ministries, we receive many prayer requests. We believe that we, as Christians, are to pray for each other and build each other up. The world is out there continually trying to defeat us and tear us down, so it is very important that we as Christians communicate positively and pray for each other. With that in mind, I'd like to read this letter I received:

Dear Reverend Ollison,

I have this question. If Jesus was an angel, then how did He become God? Why was He chosen as God over the other angels. Also, if God is the Father of Jesus and Mary is His mother, then is Mary God's wife? I'm not trying to be silly, I just want to know. Several of the other books I have been reading talk about these things, but it seems so confusing to me.

Here is my response:

Dear Friend,

You have some interesting questions and I am going to give you some straightforward answers. First, Jesus was not an angel. Jesus is not an angel. Jesus will never be an angel. Likewise, Jesus was not chosen out of a group of angels to be God and Mary is not God's wife.

The Word says in John 1 that: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

Verse 14 in the same chapter says, “The Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory.”

So you see, Jesus didn't just appear on earth as a newly created being. He Himself was the Creator through Whom all things were created and He came to earth as man. He allowed Himself to be crucified and was raised from the dead and continues to live today. He did this for you and for me. He died so that we can live forever.

Now, my Friend, let me make this suggestion. Put away your other books for now. They are obviously written by men who do not have a full understanding of the Bible. Find a good Word believing church in your area and get involved in some Bible study. You will enjoy it. The Bible is alive with truths of God. Everything you read in the Word is true. After all, it was written by God.

If you need a Bible let me know and we'll send you one.

Hosea 4:6 says, "My people perish for lack of knowledge." We must read and meditate on the Word in order to have knowledge and know the truth. After all Jesus said in John 8:31 and 32 that if we would abide in His Word we would be His disciples and we would know the truth and the truth would set us free.
